Coronavirus: prevention of infection and spread

IMPORTANT!!!

Coronavirus: prevention of infection and spread.

SI "TMO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Chernihiv region" informs about the complications of the epidemic situation with acute respiratory disease COVID-19.

Coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The disease is transmitted by droplets and contact routes from person to person. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is not able to travel long distances. It is contained in droplets that a person exhales when coughing or sneezing. Distance is a guarantee of safety and a factor in interrupting the epidemic chain. Therefore, it is almost impossible to get infected even from an infected person when you are at a distance of more than 1.5 m.

The incubation period is 2-3 days (up to 14 days). During the incubation period, an infected person is contagious.

The most common symptoms are fever, cough, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell; less common symptoms are sore throat, headache, muscle and joint pain, diarrhea, skin rash, and red or irritated eyes. Serious symptoms are difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain, speech or movement disorders, or confusion.

How to protect yourself from the severe consequences of the disease and slow down the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus:

  1. Get vaccinated!!! Vaccination is the only effective way to reduce the risks of hospitalization and death due to coronavirus disease. Now more than ever, protection against coronavirus disease is needed. In the conditions of war and with the approach of the autumn-winter season, the risk of catching COVID-19 increases significantly.
  2. Keep a distance of at least 1.5 m from other people, even if they have no signs of illness. Avoid crowded places (public transport, shops).
  3. It is possible to stop the spread of viruses if you follow cough etiquette. When coughing and sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with a bent elbow, preferably with a disposable napkin, this helps prevent the spread of the virus through your hands. Then you need to throw away the napkin and wash your hands. If it is not possible to wash your hands, it is appropriate to treat them with 70% alcohol antiseptic.
  4. To oblige sick police officers with signs of respiratory infection to immediately contact the polyclinic of the State Institution "TMO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Chernihiv region", room 102, or a family doctor.
  5. Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and warm water (at least 20 seconds) after using the toilet, after being in public places, before eating, or if your hands are visibly dirty. If it is impossible to wash hands, treat them with an alcohol-containing antiseptic (especially before smoking). Limit handshakes. Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with dirty hands.
  6. If you feel symptoms of respiratory illness, you should limit contact with other people and vice versa, and avoid contact with sick people, in particular people with a cough.
  7. Use a protective face mask (it should be replaced regularly every 4 hours and if necessary, as soon as it becomes wet or dirty). Wear a well-fitting mask when physical distance cannot be maintained and in poorly ventilated areas.
  8. Provide for the availability of sufficient detergents, disinfectants, hand sanitizers, and masks (10-day supply).
  9. Regularly carry out wet cleaning of floors and wiping of all furniture using detergents and disinfectants.
  10.  Conduct regular thorough ventilation of the premises (2-3 times a day).
  11. Limit participation in public events.
