MODERN OPHTHALMOLOGICAL EQUIPMENT

In June 2019, the State Institution "TMA of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Chernihiv region" received a new kerato-refractometer, which is used by ophthalmologists to examine candidates for service, police officers and servicemen of the National Guard.

      Refractometry is an objective method of studying the refractive power of the eye using special devices - refractometers. Nowadays automatic (computer) refractometers are used in ophthalmology. This is a modern method of studying the refraction of the eye, which allows you to quickly get an accurate result. Using the refractometry method, it is possible to detect various refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, and, accordingly, to choose the correct and quick correction.

      In addition, modern equipment is used for the examination of persons undergoing M(MM)C: computer perimeter and optical coherence tomography.

      A modern automatic computer perimeter is used by an ophthalmologist to determine the field of view and check the threshold sensitivity of the retina. That is, the perimeter provides information about the space that the human eye sees with a fixed gaze. Perimetry data help the ophthalmologist to judge the presence of diseases of the retina and optic nerve, visual pathways, and visual centers of the brain. They indicate the localization of the pathological process.

      The examination is carried out in a completely dark room. Test duration is 10-20 minutes depending on the type of perimetry.

      Optical coherence tomography is a modern non-invasive method of examining the retina and optic disc. It is performed on the apparatus ZD-OST-1000 manufactured by Topcon (Japan). Such examination makes it possible to conduct a layer-by-layer examination of retinal tissues to determine the degree and form of their damage in several retinal diseases. It is also used for the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma: determining the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer and the size of the glaucomatous excavation of the optic disc.

      Important for the patient:

Requires time for pupil dilation (at least 20 min).

Does not require anesthesia.

Requires concentration of attention, especially at the time of photographing.

Lasts about 715 minutes.
