According to UNICEF, more than a thousand children die every day from diarrhea, a disease also called "dirty hands disease". Half of these deaths could be avoided if children and their caregivers washed their hands with soap and water before eating and after using the toilet. Pathogens of many infectious diseases enter the human body through unwashed hands.

             Good hand hygiene is the basis of safe and effective health care. The UN and UNICEF in particular called for one day a year to draw attention to the need to wash hands and teach children to do so.  Since 2008, World Handwashing Day is celebrated annually on October 15 and is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

The State Institution "TMA of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Chernihiv region" reminds you that it is mandatory to wash your hands with soap:

• When hands are visibly dirty;
• After returning home from the street;
• Before, during, and after cooking;
• Before eating;
• Before and after caring for a patient;
• After coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose;
• Before and after going to the toilet;
• After changing diapers or cleaning up after a child who has used the toilet;
• After taking out the garbage;
• After you have touched animals, and their food or cleaned up after animals.
